Watts Conservatory of Music

is a nonprofit institution founded to uplift young artists in one of Los Angeles’ most historically significant creative communities. The Conservatory provides free, high-quality music education, mentorship, and performance opportunities to local youth. Housed near the legendary Watts Towers, it continues the neighborhood’s tradition of transforming adversity into artistic expression, offering state-of-the-art recording and rehearsal spaces, instruction from accomplished musicians, and programs that bridge classical training with modern production and digital artistry. More than a school, the Watts Conservatory of Music stands as a symbol of cultural resilience and empowerment, fueling the next generation of performers, producers, and innovators. Behind the Hits: Legends of the Studio hosted by Thomas Claxton features an extraordinary panel of session legends, including Carmine Rojas (David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Joe Bonamassa), Eddie Martinez (Robert Palmer, Steve Winwood, Run DMC), Jonathan Mover (Joe Satriani, Aretha Franklin), Lyle Workman (Sting, Beck, Todd Rundgren), and many more.

The event blends storytelling with a live and interactive Q&A session, as well as a performance revealing the behind-the-scenes craftsmanship that turned studio sessions into cultural milestones. Attendees will gain rare insight into the creative process of artists who defined the most influential eras of rock, pop, and soul — and continue to inspire the next generation of music-makers.
 

 Slapbak is a powerhouse band that effortlessly blends Funk, Hip-Hop, and Rock/Alternative into an electrifying sound. Founded by Jara Harris in the '90s, the group features a unique family dynamic with Jara’s daughter, Jaz Harris, on guitar and wife, Alyse Harris, on keyboards. Known for their high-energy performances, Slapbak has shared the stage and studio with legends like Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg. The band is rounded out by TJ Quake on vocals & rap, Gus Day on guitar, Jesse Conlee on drums & vocals, and Deja Cain’s soulful vocals, making them a must-see act that crushes air!
